What we do

Pick your project

Every job starts with a walkthrough and a written estimate, so you know the number before anyone opens a can. Don't see what you need listed? Contact us — the list below is where we start, not where we stop.

Why Holden

Small crew, tight schedule

Holden Services is a small crew out of Lago Vista, running jobs across the Austin metro and the Hill Country. No sales rep who disappears after the handshake, no rotating cast of subs. The person who quotes your job is the person doing it.

We carry liability insurance and can send you a certificate before we start. We keep the schedule tight, protect what we're working around, and clean up like we were never there. If something isn't right, you tell us and we take care of it.

How a job runs

  1. WalkthroughWe look at the actual space, measure, and talk through colors, sheens, and problem areas.
  2. Written estimateA line-item quote with scope and pricing, sent to you in writing. No pressure, no expiring discounts.
  3. PrepCover, mask, patch, sand, caulk, prime. This is where a paint job is won or lost.
  4. PaintBrush, roll, or spray depending on the surface, whichever the finish calls for.
  5. Walk it togetherWe go through it with you and fix anything before we load up.

The work

What we're doing while we're there

Prep, paint, detail, and clean-up. The parts you don't see are the parts that decide how long the finish lasts.

Freshly stained wooden privacy fence under a blue sky

Specialty

Fence & deck staining

Cedar goes gray fast out here. We wash it back, prep it right, and put down a stain that soaks in instead of sitting on top and peeling in a year.

What we stain

Wood, done properly

  • Cedar and pine privacy fences
  • Decks, stairs, and railing
  • Pergolas, arbors, and shade structures
  • Exterior stained wood accents, beams, and columns
  • Porch ceilings and tongue-and-groove
  • Gates, entry doors, and garage door wood
  • Outdoor furniture and built-ins
  • Re-stain over faded or previously stained wood

Not sure whether yours needs a full strip or just a wash and re-coat? Send a photo and we'll tell you straight.

Our process

  1. WashPressure wash or brighten to pull out gray, mildew, and mill glaze.
  2. Dry timeWood has to be dry before stain goes on. We don't rush this part.
  3. RepairsLoose pickets, popped nails, and soft boards flagged or replaced.
  4. SampleYou approve the color on your actual wood before we do the whole thing.
  5. StainSprayed and back-brushed so it penetrates instead of sitting on the surface.

Options

Transparent, semi, or solid

The more pigment, the more UV protection — and the less grain you see. We'll walk through the tradeoff on your wood before you pick.

Transparent

Most grain, most natural look, shortest life. Best on newer wood in good shape.

Semi-transparent

The usual pick. Real color and solid UV protection with the grain still showing through.

Solid

Maximum protection and coverage on weathered or mismatched wood. Hides grain.

Know your fence footage?

Send linear feet or deck square footage and we can get you a ballpark before we ever come out.

Kitchen with painted cabinets

Specialty

Cabinet painting

A new kitchen without a new kitchen. We degrease, sand, prime, and spray your existing boxes and doors to a hard, smooth finish that doesn't look brushed on.

What's included

Sprayed, not brushed

Cabinets are the most detail-heavy work we do, and the finish shows every shortcut. Ours are labeled, removed, cleaned, sanded, primed for adhesion, and sprayed with a cabinet-grade coating that cures hard enough for daily use.

  • Kitchen cabinets, islands, and pantries
  • Bathroom vanities
  • Built-ins, bookcases, and entertainment centers
  • Laundry and mudroom cabinetry
  • Doors and drawer fronts sprayed off-site or on-site
  • Two-tone islands and accent colors
  • Hardware removed, reinstalled, or upgraded
  • New hinge holes and hardware relocation on request

Our process

  1. Label & removeEvery door and drawer front numbered so it goes back exactly where it came from.
  2. DegreaseKitchen grease is the #1 reason cabinet paint fails. We clean before we sand.
  3. Sand & fillScuff sanded for adhesion, dings filled, grain filled if you want it smooth.
  4. Bonding primerChosen for your substrate — oak, maple, thermofoil, or previously painted.
  5. Spray finishMultiple thin coats of cabinet-grade enamel, sanded between coats.
  6. ReinstallHardware back on, doors adjusted, and a walkthrough with you.

Straight answers

Common questions

How long does it take?

Most kitchens run several days start to finish depending on door count and cure time. We'll give you the actual schedule with your estimate.

Can I use my kitchen?

Usually yes, with limits. Doors come off for a few days and there's a cure window before heavy use. We plan it with you.

Will oak grain show?

Only if you want it to. Grain filling is an option — it adds time and cost, so we'll price it both ways.

Got a cabinet situation that's not typical? Contact us for more details.

Send us a photo of your kitchen

We can usually give you a ballpark from pictures and a rough door count.

Renovation and repair tools

Beyond the brush

Other work & light renovation

Most painters hand you a list of things they don't do. We'd rather just handle it. Drywall repair, popcorn ceiling removal, texture matching, trim work, and the small renovation items that come up mid-project.

This is the short list. If your project is close to any of this, it's worth asking.

Drywall repair

  • Nail pops and hairline cracks
  • Holes, dings, and door-knob damage
  • Water-damaged sheetrock cut out and replaced
  • Corner bead repair
  • Texture matching — knockdown, orange peel, smooth

Popcorn ceiling removal

  • Scrape and skim to smooth
  • Re-texture to knockdown if you prefer
  • Full floor and wall protection
  • Prime and paint the finished ceiling
  • Room-by-room or whole house

Trim & carpentry

  • Baseboard and casing replacement
  • Crown molding
  • Rotted fascia and trim board swaps
  • Shiplap and accent walls
  • Caulk and seal before paint

Surface prep & cleaning

  • Pressure washing
  • Mildew treatment
  • Wallpaper removal
  • Old paint scraping and stabilizing
  • Rust treatment on metal

Coatings & floors
